The same math applies to vehicles, weapons, crates, barriers, and terrain. A 1:32 military truck is half as large as the real truck in every dimension. A 1:35 tank is slightly smaller than a 1:32 tank, even though those two scales are often displayed near each other.
That difference matters more than many collectors expect. A 1:32 soldier next to a 1:35 tank may look only a little oversized in a wide display. Put the same figure in an open hatch or beside a doorway, though, and the mismatch becomes obvious. The figure looks like an adult standing beside a child-sized vehicle.
Figure Height Is a Useful Quick Check
Military figures are often described in millimeters instead of a ratio. This can be helpful, but it is not always exact. A 54mm figure generally works close to 1:32 scale, while a 28mm figure is commonly associated with 1:64 scale. Manufacturers may measure from the feet to the eyes rather than to the top of the head, and poses can change the listed height.
Use figure height as a starting point, then compare the actual figure to the vehicle or scene. A kneeling radio operator, seated driver, or running infantryman should not be judged by total standing height alone. At 1:87, an average adult figure is around 20 to 21mm tall. This is the standard scale for HO railroad layouts, making it a practical choice for military rail yards, supply depots, road convoys, and large field scenes.
The main advantage is footprint. You can build a full camp, multiple vehicles, and realistic terrain without needing a large shelf. The trade-off is that fine details are smaller and more delicate. Individual facial features and tiny equipment may be less noticeable unless viewed up close.
1:72 and 1:76 Scale - Compact Historical Displays
Both 1:72 and 1:76 are common in military miniatures, particularly for armor, aircraft, and historical battlefield scenes. They are close enough that some hobbyists combine them, but they are not identical. A 1:72 figure is about 5.5 percent larger than a 1:76 figure.
For distant troops, background vehicles, or a busy battlefield, the mix can work. For figures standing beside a vehicle, using its crew compartment, or posed at the same checkpoint, stay with one scale when possible. Consistency reads better than squeezing in a figure just because the uniform is correct.

A 1:64 military miniature scale is a natural fit for diecast collectors, garage scenes, convoy displays, modern tactical setups, and miniature photography. Most 1:64 human figures fall near 28mm, although pose and sculpt style can make one set appear larger or smaller than another.
This scale is especially useful when military equipment shares the scene with 1:64 pickups, utility vehicles, trailers, emergency vehicles, or civilian support equipment. A realistic scene may include mechanics, drivers, guards, photographers, fuel crews, or civilians in addition to uniformed personnel.
The challenge is that many toy vehicles labeled 1:64 are not perfectly true to scale. Some are enlarged to fit packaging, thickened for durability, or designed around larger wheels. 1:35 and 1:32 Scale - Larger Figures and Vehicle Detail
1:35 is the most familiar scale for detailed military armor kits, while 1:32 is popular with larger military figures, vehicles, and display pieces. They are close, but a 1:32 figure is about 9 percent larger than a 1:35 figure. That is enough to notice in the foreground.
A 1:35 crewman can sometimes work near a 1:32 vehicle if he is placed farther back or posed lower. A standing 1:32 sentry beside a 1:35 tank usually will not. Choose one primary scale for the main action area, especially when figures touch the vehicle, sit inside it, or stand against a building wall.
How to Match Figures to Military Vehicles
Start with the stated scale on the vehicle package or model kit. Then check the real-world dimensions if the model seems questionable. Divide the actual length, width, or height by the model measurement to estimate its true scale. Height is often the easiest measurement for a vehicle with a known roofline or cab height.
Next, test the figure where it will actually be used. A seated figure needs to fit the seat, steering wheel, pedals, and roof clearance. A standing mechanic needs to reach the engine bay at a believable height. A soldier at a checkpoint should not tower over a concrete barrier that would barely reach a real person's knees.
Do not rely only on the label. Two brands can both call their products 1:64 while using very different proportions. One may sculpt broader heads and hands for durability, while another uses slimmer, more realistic anatomy. Scenery Must Follow the Same Scale Rules
Figures and vehicles get most of the attention, but scenery is what exposes a scale mismatch fastest. Doors, windows, fencing, traffic cones, pallets, oil drums, road signs, and barricades all give the eye familiar real-world measurements.
A standard door is roughly 80 inches tall. In 1:64 scale, that works out to about 1.25 inches. In 1:32, it is about 2.5 inches. If your figures fit the vehicle but the doorway only reaches their shoulders, the scene will still feel off.
For military scenes, watch common accessories closely. Sandbags should look like bags a person can lift. Ammo crates should not look like furniture. Fuel drums should sit around waist height on a standing figure. A large item may be appropriate if it is a storage container or heavy equipment case, but it should look deliberately oversized rather than accidentally out of scale.

Strict scale matching is best for the main subject, but controlled scale mixing has a place in dioramas and photography. Smaller-scale figures can create forced perspective when placed near the back of a scene. A 1:72 convoy behind a 1:64 foreground vehicle can suggest distance if the roadway, terrain, and camera angle support the effect.
This works best when the smaller items are clearly separated from the foreground. Do not place a 1:72 soldier directly beside a 1:64 soldier and expect the difference to read as natural depth.
